Charles Darwin Foundation Galapagos Species Checklist

Silverfish and Firebrats

Silverfish and firebrats are wingless insects that can jump or run rapidly. They usually hide in the day and emerge at night to crawl on rocks, in litter, and on shrubs or cacti. They feed on terrestrial algae, lichens, and litter. Nicoletia meinerti is eyeless and occurs in soil or caves.
Galapagos Thysanura occur in lowland littoral or arid zone habitats and were probably dispersed by rafting.
