Who are CDF's Donors?
Why contribute?
CDF is not only a worthy cause. It is also an excellent steward of its charitable funding.
CDF maximizes every dollar it is given. Here are facts from the 2004 Annual Report:
CDF total charitable support totaled $4,106,851, with only 2 percent ($86,734) of those funds spent on direct fundraising expenses. Of its $4,398,728 total expenditures, a full 87 percent ($3,833,134) was spent directly on activities to fulfill the CDF mission.
With this funding, the CDF was able to accomplish a vast program of activities.

General Support
Gifts to CDF’s general funds help guarantee CDF will adapt to ever-changing needs for Galapagos, and to situations that cannot be planned yet require prompt and effective action by CDF. Some examples from the past include:
- A major oil spill from a sunken tanker in July 2003, which called for quick action to limit the negative impact
- A volcanic eruption on Isabela Island in October 2005 that offered the opportunity to study geologic processes in Galapagos
Unrestricted gifts enable CDF to ensure that it can operate with maximum efficiency in appraising and responding to ongoing and emergency needs.
