Visiting Scientists

Marine biologist Jon Witman
Marine biologist Jon Witman is one of CDF's many visiting scientists.

The Visiting Scientist program extends our scientific resources to scientists from around the world to support their search for knowledge about the ecosystems, flora, and fauna of Galapagos. These visitors increase our scientific understanding and bolster our role as advisor to the Ecuadorian government on the conservation of Galapagos. In some cases visiting scientists and resident Station scientists work together on research projects of direct relevance to conservation priorities.

The scope of research topics is broad, ranging from endemic species such as Scalesia and tortoises to introduced species such as quinine and rats, even extending to areas rarely studied by the Station such as seismology and vulcanology.

Interested parties can propose a research project to the Galapagos National Park Service (GNPS), once they already have funding. Upon receiving formal approval by the GNPS, scientists work with the CDRS for logistical support.
