Alejandro started working for the CDF in 1999 as a volunteer. Following which he was awarded a grant from the CDF to carry out his undergraduate thesis on the impacts of a fire ant eradication program on endemic invertebrate communities on Marchena Island. Since then, he has worked on several entomology projects at CDF.

In 2018, Alejandro graduated with a PhD from the State University of New York, College of Environmental Science and Forestry. For his thesis, Alejandro investigated the chemical ecology of Philornis downsi. Alejandro is currently contracted to continue research in search of an attractant to trap this fly.
