Joselyn Yar

Laboratory assistant Philornis Downsi

Joselyn Yar is from Ecuador and she is a permanent resident of the Galapagos Islands. She lives in Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island. Joselyn first worked as a volunteer at the Charles Darwin Research Station in January 2013. She collaborated on two projects: Control of the parasitic invasive fly Philornis downsi and Monitoring of Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) nesting on beaches in Galapagos.
In November 2019, she graduated from the Central University of Ecuador, earning a degree in Ecological Tourism. Within a few months, she joined the Philornis project team again. She is currently helping with laboratory and field activities in order to collect information about this highly invasive and damaging fly.
