Carlos Silva Zambrano

Environmental Economics Researcher

Carlos is a researcher who joined the Charles Darwin Scientific Station in 2020. With a Master's degree in Econometrics and Economics from the University of York, he brings a wealth of experience in economic valuation of biodiversity, ecosystem services, management of marine protected areas (MPAs), and blue economy research. His work has been published in scientific journals such as Ocean & Coastal Management, Forest Policy and Economics, and Empirical Economics, among others. Apart from his research, Carlos has also worked as an economic analyst in the business sector and as a professor at ESPOL Polytechnic University.

At present, Carlos serves as Economics and Business Advisor for the Interdisciplinary Fisheries Project of the CDF. Through his collaboration with local stakeholders, he has been instrumental in forming the Entrepreneurial Community of the Galapagos Seafood System, which aims to strengthen the entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystem of the islands. Carlos' research and engagement with the community aims to support sustainable development, food security and resilience of the Galapagos islands.
