Antes de 1983, el kelp se registró en Isabela (Caleta Iguana), Santa Cruz (Bahía Academia, Caamaño), Santa Fe, Marchena (North Bay), Fernandina (Punta Espinosa) y Floreana (Post Office Bay, playa negra). Cinelli y Colantoni (1974) lo reportaron en 1 de 8 sitios muestreados entre 1971 y 1972; Mead et al (1972), en 4 de 29 sitios en 1972. Wellington (1975) observó que las algas fueron especialmente abundantes en profundidad alrededor de Caleta Iguana (Isabela) durante sus estudios. Sin embargo, no hubo ningún avistamiento confirmado hasta la recolección de una muestra en el 2004 y el posterior redescubrimiento de algas profundas locales extensas durante un crucero de busqueda en enero del 2007 en Caleta Iguana, Isabela y Fernandina occidental.

Notes: Frequent as dredged off Academy Bay. INA (2021) UC University Herbarium has a Collection of Marine Algal TYPE of Galapagos I. UC1884215 , AHFH147.
