Between 1941 and 1946, Galapagos hosted a U.S. military base on Baltra Island. The presence of the military was recorded in documents now preserved in U.S. archives, and in the memories, stories and photos of the soldiers who were stationed in the archipelago. A series of those photos, belonging to Dr. Alfred Croneis and taken in 1943, are housed in the CDF archive, and are presented in three digital books: black & white images of life on the base, aerial photos of different parts of the islands, and visits by the troops to other parts of the archipelago.
