Size: 20-37 cm, White, occasionally with some grayish tinting. Golden eye with dark pupil. Tubular nostrils and small pectoral fins.

Habitat: Sand flats and rocky areas mixed with boulders, gravel rubble and sand.

Taxon category: Accepted

Syn.: Opichthus evionthas Jordan & Bollman, 1890, fide Appeltans et al. (2010); McCosker & Rosenblatt (2010) consider Leptocephalus alternatus Fowler 1938: 21 (from Tagus Cove, with 152 myomeres) to be a junior synonym of Quassiremus evionthas, which has 149-153 vertebrae.
