Forms small colonies of closely packed, deep purple-black coralines.
Found in shelttered locations to dephts of 43 m. The colonies of Targus cove (Gardner island), and Devil's Crown (Floreana), were destroyed in the 1982-83 El Nino, but the colonies at Cousins (Santa Cruz), and Gordon Rocks (Santa Cruz) survived.
