Fernanda Loayza

Environmental Education and Community Outreach Coordinator

Fernanda leads all environmental education and community outreach efforts for the Charles Darwin Foundation (CDF). Based in Santa Cruz island, Galapagos, Fernanda joined CDF in October 2022 after having worked for more than five years leading educational programs on behalf of the Galapagos National Park Directorate, working in close collaboration with a variety of local institutions engaged in educational, social and conservation activities, including CDF.

An artist and educator at her core, Fernanda believes that the privilege of living in Galapagos must be accompanied by a deep commitment and responsibility towards the environment, to the beings that inhabit it, and the natural elements that make it up. Fernanda believes that every single person in the archipelago is a potential agent of change, not just at a local level, but also inspiring change globally for the welfare of ecosystems, socio-ecosystems, and the communities associated with them.

Fernanda has been living and working with Galapagos communities for more than 14 years and is deeply engaged in its artistic, social, educative and conservation circles. Throughout her time here, she has worked as a cultural manager and environmental educator, designing and executing activities across various sectors in a participatory manner. She has extensive experience working with children and youth groups, through experiential and place-based activities, also seeking to promote reflection, critical thinking, and a willingness to take action.

Fernanda holds a degree in Social Communication and a Master by Research in Visual Anthropology.
