Adopt a Flightless Cormorant
The Bird That Forgot to Fly
The flightless cormorant is found only in Galapagos, along the rugged coasts of Fernandina and Isabela. Over thousands of years, natural selection favored birds that were stronger swimmers rather than fliers. With few land predators, wings became less useful, and individuals with shorter wings and more powerful legs thrived, perfectly adapted for diving after fish.

How your adoption helps
With only around 2,500 individuals left, the flightless cormorant is especially vulnerable to threats such as climate change, bycatch, invasive species, human activity, disease, and pollution. Our team monitors seabird colonies, including the flightless cormorant, and works to control invasive species in their breeding areas. Your adoption will help us provide the Galapagos National Park with the scientific evidence needed to guide effective conservation and ensure the long-term protection of these unique species.
