CDF Launches Ambassador Program with Renowned Photographer Mattias Klum
The Charles Darwin Foundation (CDF) is excited to launch its Ambassador Program, a platform for passionate advocates who share our vision of protecting the Galapagos Islands—one of our planet’s most extraordinary natural treasures—through science and conservation action.
We are proud to welcome our first Ambassador, Mattias Klum, a world-renowned photographer, filmmaker, conservationist, and artist. Mattias’ stunning storytelling and emotionally compelling visuals have inspired global audiences to connect with the natural world. Since becoming one of National Geographic's youngest contributors in 1997, Mattias has produced 13 cover stories, directed 12 documentaries, and published 17 books, collaborating with figures like Jane Goodall and Johan Rockström. His work is featured in major international publications, such as National Geographic, Geo, The New York Times and Vogue.
Over the course of his career, Mattias has worked numerous times in the Galapagos Islands, documenting its raw beauty and rich biodiversity for audiences worldwide.
“Galapagos is an extraordinary place—a rare gem that I’ve been fortunate to get to know over the years,” said an enthusiastic Mattias Klum. “While I’ve loved photographing its incredible wildlife, it has become increasingly clear to me that this fragile archipelago is facing growing threats.
I’ve had the enormous pleasure of working with the Charles Darwin Foundation’s scientists and leadership in recent years and witnessing firsthand the vital work they’ve been doing for over six decades. Their efforts are more critical now than ever, as we grapple with global challenges like climate change, rising sea levels, and increasing human impact.
As Ambassadors, we carry a profound responsibility to our planet. I’m thrilled to step into this role and contribute to ensuring a sustainable future for these enchanted islands and the remarkable species that call them home.”
CDF Ambassadors unite their networks, influence, and dedication to raise awareness, inspire action, and mobilize resources to ensure a sustainable future for these iconic ecosystems and the unique species they support. As a CDF Ambassador, Klum will leverage his extraordinary talent and influence to raise awareness, mobilize resources, and foster global support for the sustainable future of the Galapagos.
